    INTCATCH promotes citizen science activities through the active participation of volunteers in scientific actions, such as the gathering of data, operation of the robotic boats in the real water environment, and their participation in dissemination activities.

Vision

INTCATCH is a HORIZON2020 project funded by the European Union which aims to revolutionize the way water monitoring and decision making will be implemented for the period 2020-2040. Through INTCATCH we want to:

  • Use digital technologies and innovative tools to deliver smart water monitoring solutions
  • Bring the lab into the field in order to decrease the cost and resources of water monitoring
  • Actively engage citizens and NGOs in water monitoring activities for the benefit of society
  • To provide a complete platform for water monitoring solutions which water regulators, NGOs and even the public can

Mission Statement

  • To develop an innovative approach towards monitoring and managing water bodies
  • To develop and demonstrate the application and sustained use of robotic boats and decision support systems for water monitoring
  • To develop and apply innovative sensors for monitoring and managing the water environment
  • To demonstrate the effectiveness of innovative technologies to treat diffuse runoff and improve the quality of the receiving water bodies
  • To integrate and demonstrate a cloud based system to store and visualise data in a format accessible to the regulators, community groups, NGOs and citizens
  • To bring to the market the complete INTCATCH service for water monitoring that potential customers can acquire
  • To transfer novel DNA test kits, which are already used in the biomedical sector to the aqueous environment and market to the sector

    European citizens have a water environment to be proud of. In general, they can safely drink water from the tap and they have access to thousands of rivers, lakes and coastal waters for recreation.

    INTCATCH will package tools and IT in a managed way to enable ‘customers’ to take up the INTCATCH Monitoring System as a franchised business. INTCATCH businesses will be established in relevant River Basin Districts to supplement or in some cases replace competent authority monitoring. This will increase the involvement of stakeholders and use of citizen science, while also reducing the carbon footprint and costs of monitoring activities, to help achieve good status of water bodies in Europe by 2027. INTCATCH will also support networks of experts to share knowledge and expertise in catchment management, and will provide expert investigation teams for problem catchments.
